Affordable Housing Coalition

History

Love Columbia organized a field trip to visit Eileen’s Place* in Kansas City, Kansas, in September 2021. The group included Love Columbia staff and a range of local community members that represented the business sector, local government, the faith community, our local housing authority, and nonprofits.

Subsequently, the original group met and concluded that ongoing meetings would be beneficial. Additional community members have joined and a monthly meeting schedule was established. In June 2023, we merged with Boone County’s Upward Mobility Fair and Inclusive Housing Workgroup to consolidate local efforts to promote affordable housing.

*Eileen’s Place is a 60-unit complex recently built by Metro Lutheran Ministries to house individuals/families with housing choice vouchers. Eileen’s Place is a collaboration between a nonprofit, KCK Housing Authority, a developer with tax credit expertise and a property management company.

Purpose

Our goal is to provide a united voice for development of more affordable housing and promote the various projects of the coalition members. We want to raise awareness about the current housing crisis and give community members opportunities to respond individually and by forming partnerships. Our 2024 focus is on policy development and marketing to eliminate barriers to housing production and rally the community to support affordable housing development.

Meetings include reports from various partners who are developing housing stock and educational presentations about the current state of affordable housing, local housing history, and current efforts.

The coalition and subcommittees typically meet monthly on the third Tuesday at the Love Columbia Center. To receive meeting notices, contact: communityservices@boonecountymo.org.
