Ai Painting Plus is a professional paint contractor association. Ai Painting provides professional interior painting and exterior painting services for residential and commercial customers in and around Columbia, MO. Ai takes pride in every project, treating it as a piece of art.

Ai’s Apprenticeship Program outlines a detailed path to progress with with each level containing a specific set of deliverables our employees must demonstrate in order to grow to the next level. Ultimately, the goal for the individual is to work their way through the process and obtain a position of leadership as a result. The process is as follows:  

  • Apprentice level 1 -Demonstrate willingness to learn the trade. Learn basic prepping techniques and their importance such as sanding, scraping and cleaning. Develop notable improvement as determined by supervising Lead Painters in learning basic skills such as caulking, taping, paint brush and roller operation in all paints and stains. Such improvement will be evaluated after a 30 day period by Lead Painters and CEO in order to decide on the best path forward.

  • Apprentice level 2- Demonstrate the ability to perform, with APPROVED QUALITY, the following skills: caulking, filling and sanding trim, taping and masking of all common surfaces, cutting in ceilings and rolling with an 18” roller set up. Be able to perform these skills at a pace comparable to established company rates of production for the Apprentice 2 position. Be able to demonstrate proper site preparation for interior and exterior. This includes masking, off surfaces, furniture, etc. as well as showing the ability to follow all Standard operating procedures. Items are graded on a scale of 1-5 and a 5 is needed on all items to have approval. Once all 6 tasks are signed off on, employee will receive an increase in pay to $15 hourly. A pay increase to $16 hourly will be granted upon successful completion of a Bedroom Test.

  • Painter level 1- Demonstrate ability to perform most skilled tasks on any given job without supervision. Be able to perform these tasks with APPROVED QUALITY. Such tasks include: Cutting in without tape in all scenarios, general airless spraying, ability to properly apply commonly used interior and exterior stains, ability to troubleshoot common mechanical issues with an airless sprayer (i.e. not priming/stuck ball, clogged tip, clogged intake or rock catcher, gun spitting, etc.). Aid in training efforts of Apprentice 1 and 2 team members. Be able to assess project scope and manage personal tasks accordingly as well as demonstrate knowledge of company SOP’s. These are the many tangible data points that can be assessed in order to achieve the Painter 1 title and obtain a pay raise to $17 per hour. In order to achieve a pay raise to $18 per hour a painter will need to be able to perform common drywall repairs (stress crack, joint taping, etc.) and be proficient in wall paper removal. The rest will be left up to the intuition and observation of management and will be graded upon our core values: Production, Quality, Communication, Accountability, Growth, and Teamwork.

  • High level painter- .

  • Lead Painter- Reports to: Production Manager and office manager. Lead crew in onsite procedures and manage processes to maximize efficiency. Establish and maintain communication with the customer as well as other trades on site and be able to problem solve issues when they arise. View scope sheet and/or work order and review with client (when applicable) prior to job start. Set daily production goals for the team, create a plan of attack, and execute according to the demands of the schedule and project specs. Lead on site training efforts of new hires, apprentices, and painters by tracking and documenting benchmark tasks when asked to by apprentices and painters and effectively demonstrate and enforce company processes and procedures. Demonstrate and train company culture and core values to fellow crew members. Communicate time tracking data to Office manager each day and provide office manager with job completion form after job is finished.

  • Job Leader- Manage projects according to job specs. Demonstrate exemplary customer service skills through effective communication and consideration of client’s needs. Follow company SOP’s and efficiently lead onsite procedures and manage team functions. Lead in onsite training efforts of apprentices and painters. Demonstrate core values and embody our company mission to bring joy into people’s homes.

  • Field Supervisor- The Field Supervisor is the link between production management and day-to-day on-site operations. The FS’s primary function is to provide support to the Job Leaders and their crews to ensure the project is done with efficiency and quality while maintaining communication with production management.
